The school

Hvassaleitisskóli is a comprehensive primary school with 200 students in grades 1-7. Most of our students come from Austurborg preschool. After completing the 7th grade, most students transfer to Réttarholtsskóli, where they complete their primary education.

At Hvassaleitisskóli, we focus on putting students and their needs first. This school year, we will start implementing formative learning along with the disciplinary policy of Positive Discipline. At the youngest level, teaching is based on beginner reading methods, and at the mid-level, there is a development project called "Soup", which is interdisciplinary teaching. The school has an active autism division called the Masters Division, where 9 students are studying.

Recreation

The after-school program Krakkakot is for children in grades 1 to 4, and the youth center Tónabær offers diverse and enjoyable activities for children and adolescents.

Primary school meals

School meals are free for the 2024-2025 school year. However, the school still needs to track information about allergies and intolerances and limit food waste. Students must register for the school lunch program as before.

Parents/guardians must now register for the school lunch program in the Matartíminn system and select which weekdays their children will eat. Students should choose the same weekdays each week, such as every Tuesday and/or every Thursday. More information and instructions are on the Matartíminn/Abler website.

Parent cooperation

We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child.

Reykjavík City schools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in school activities.

All schools in Reykjavík City have an active parent association.

School rules

The national curriculum for primary schools states that students need to develop various skills in daily life to be active participants in a democratic society, including communication skills, respect, tolerance, and understanding of democratic society structure. Students must learn to interact harmoniously with each other and all school staff, take responsibility for their own conduct and behavior, and respect school rules.

Evaluation of school activities

The goal of evaluating and monitoring the quality of work is to provide information about school activities, their results and development.

Hvassaleitisskóli school district

Reykjavík has many school districts, and the child's registered address determines their district school.

Your child gets priority in their district school. Nevertheless, all parents have the choice to apply to any school in the city for their children according to the rules on school districts, applications, and admission.
